چکیده

A histogram-based technique allows to estimate the bit error probability (BEP) of an optical signal suffering from distortion. At 10Gbit/s, we obtain good results even for high optical signal-to-noise ratios, i.e. for low BEP. Introduction A common technique to estimate the bit error probability (BEP) in optical communication systems uses a histogram generated by sampling the photocurrent corrupted by noise and intersymbol interference (ISI) at bit centre. From this histogram, the mean values μ1 and μ0 and the standard deviations σ1 and σ0 of marks and spaces are obtained. Assuming Gaussian noise distributions and equally likely marks and spaces, the BEP then calculated as

Impacts of the Negative-exponential and the K-distribution modeled FSO turbulent links on the theoretical and simulated performance of the distributed diffusion networks

Merging the adaptive networks with the free space optical (FSO) communication technology is a very interesting field of research because by adding the benefits of this technology, the adaptive networks become more efficient, cheap and secure. This is due to the fact that FSO communication uses unregistered visible light bandwidth instead of the overused radio spectrum. However, in spite of all ...

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

Incremental adaptive networks implemented by free space optical (FSO) communication

The aim of this paper is to fully analyze the effects of free space optical (FSO) communication links on the estimation performance of the adaptive incremental networks. The FSO links in this paper are described with two turbulence models namely the Log-normal and Gamma-Gamma distributions. In order to investigate the impact of these models we produced the link coefficients using these distribu...

Bit Error Bound of Maximum-Likelihood Cochannel Interference Cancellation

In order to increase the capacity of TDMA cellular radio networks, the reuse factor may be recduced. However, in this case the system performance is limited by cochannel interference, unless cochannel interference cancellation is done. Therefore, cochannel interference cancellation is a hot topic at the moment. Assuming perfect knowledge of the channel coefficients of the desired user and the i...

Exploiting Failure Recovery for the Robust Support of two Service Classes in IP over WDM Networks

We analyze the gain obtained by deploying, in an IP-over-WDM network, two classes of service differentiated by their type of protection. The first one, called FP (Fully Protected), is protected at the WDM or SONET layer by a 1:1 protection strategy, while the second one, called BEP (Best Effort protected), offers no specific guarantee on service disruption is provided. In case of failure it off...
